The future is not bright for 'Missing e'
missing-e:
I attempted to discuss options through which we could work together on making Missing e something they would accept, but after initial positive statements, they seemed fairly averse to the idea. Their intent is for me to stop distribution of Missing e in any form.
On behalf of all who have developed software professionally, and of all who have led entrepreneurial efforts, I am...

bullets, post-chsh and otherwise
Another fabulous time…I think this was my fifth. Big thanks to the organizing committee (Toni, Dan, Jess, Jason) and to all who helped!
Except, once again, I didn’t get to spend enough time with some of the people I wanted to see, and there were too many who could not make it at all. Someday we’ll find a way to alter spacetime so a 4 hour party can include 10 hours of...

CHSH No. 8 Operating Instructions
chshtweetup:
The August CHSH is a lower-key affair, so the only formal event we host is The Main Event, Saturday night at Mullen’s Bar and Grill in Wrigleyville.
However, we spend much of the weekend in the River North neighborhood (where the Holiday Inn Mart Plaza is located) or exploring museums or Millennium Park downtown.
Follow @chshtweetup on Twitter; organizers will post live updates of...

I would have killed him and stuffed his body in the wall.
You coming to #chsh? I could use some help with some “projects.”

Need a ruling: justified rage?
Over a month ago, after a really bad storm, I called Perma-seal, a regional basement waterproofer, to come out and take a look at my basement, which leaks a little in three different places whenever we get a heavy rain. Nothing major, just some puddles here and there. We don’t keep anything down there that could be ruined, but it’s a nuisance and I want it fixed. It probably has caused...

Final golf update
I never got back on the course. We waited for about 90 minutes, eating and drinking and talking shit. The guys running the thing, in consultation with the course officials, looked at the weather and declared it would good to play again in another 90 minutes. (They were right, it’s gorgeous out now.) They told us we could wait it out and finish, or leave and take a raincheck.
Half of the...
Lightning delay
* They called us in after seven holes. Not sure when/if we are going back out.
* I hit my first drive 25 yards into the weeds with everyone watching, my second about 265 dead center with no one watching.
* When we finally saw the beer cart girl all she had left was Miller Lite.
* There are 74 guys and 2 women in our outing.
* My playing partners are now debating which area country clubs are...

themesong google calendar
Hey, for those of you who are potentially interested in the themesong meme, I put the first month and a half into a google calendar. For me, that’s easier to access than the google doc since I can import it right into iCal and my phone and all that.
I did through September and I’ll get the rest after dinner tonight.
Per the google calendar info page, here is the link in HTML, here it...

bananacasts replied to your post: Disqus
I’m against grafting another entity’s comment system atop Tumblr. I used it briefly when I was first using Tumblr in earnest.
I wouldn’t use it either, except I have several civilians who access this via RSS and even direct URL, and there’s no other way for them to leave feedback that I’m aware of.

Disqus
Disqus, run by the same kind of sharp minds that run tumblr, apparently changed their notification scheme and you have to verify your email address. I’d give you a link, but it’s (naturally) one of those sites where 700 javascript dialogs pop up and the URL has #! in it, so I can’t. You’ll have to log in at disqus.com and find your way.
I was wondering why I’d...

Walking with Laura →
Earlier this summer, a dear friend of mine of nearly 30 years (I went to her prom with her!) had an odd lump on her neck checked out. It turned out to be Hodgkin’s lymphoma. The good news is they caught it early and all indications point to a very positive outcome. She also has excellent insurance and a fantastic support network of people who love her.
A huge group of my friends and her...

Thank you
You’re good people. Supportive and smart. I’d hit some of your askies if tumblr thought that was a worthwhile thing for their app to allow.
FTR, we’ll tough it out until Friday, the original departure date. I won’t abort. But I remain pretty dead set against subjecting the team to this much misery here next year or anytime thereafter. No one is happy.
Truthful Tuesday
My wife and my kids hate the beach.
This fills me with a sadness that is hard to describe, especially given an iPhone keyboard as an input device.
As a kid, the highlight of all of my summers was our yearly escape to this corner of Michigan. It’s lately been rebranded by the local tourism board as “Harbor Country” but when I was a kid it was just “the cottage.”...
