Birthday (and other) Bullets

• 45 sounds a lot older than 44 for some reason. Feels about the same, though.
• Past birthday: pre-kid, spent in St. Lucia, floating in a pool, resting a rum cooler on my belly, asking someone to push me over to the bar for another because I was too drunk to paddle.
• Current birthday: post-kid, it’s 5 got damn degrees out there, just got back from skating lessons, ate Chinese takeout with said kids, probably pushing the car out in the morning.
• Those are both awesome, just in very different ways (except the weather parts).
• Pro tip: schedule boring meetings on your birthday, and use the frequent Facebook message alerts as an excuse to get out. “Oh, I just got a system page, I gotta go.”
• The fitness thing has hit the rocks in a major way due to scheduling problems. It’s not really resolvable given a two career household, two busy kids, and the restrictions of Euclidean space. I’ll have to accept 1-2 days per week instead of the 3-4 I was hoping for, and also accept that I won’t meet my goals. We’ll see how long this lasts from here. I’m bearish.
• I don’t know what Megaupload is about, exactly, though I can guess. In any case, I see that Anonymous shut down the DOJ’s site in retaliation. What I do know is that in a cyberwar between Anonymous and the US Govt, my money’s on Anonymous. Big.
• It was thrilling to see the odious PIPA bill take serious damage thanks to widespread citizen activism yesterday. Maybe democracy isn’t quite dead yet. Now, let’s hope everyone gets just that agitated about the next illegal oil war.
• I went to the allergist to find out if I’m allergic to a drug. Their solution: give me increasing doses while being monitored to see if I react. “If something happens, at least you’ll already be in the hospital,” he said. Sounds great, can’t wait. Maybe they’ll use leeches, too.
