It is so unbelievably rubbish that Tumblr doesn’t show everything posted by everyone I follow on my dashboard.
And that some of my long time followers might not be seeing my posts now!
ivotemelkov told me that Tumblr said:
“The first page of the Dashboard (or the first 10 posts if Endless scrolling enabled) shows the most recent 10 posts among all the people you follow, then only the posts from the most recent 100 users you follow who posted something. There’s no way to change that, but I can’t tell you how much we appreciate your support and feedback. I’ve passed your suggestion along to our team.”
bookspaperscissors asked for clarification from Tumblr support, and they concurred.
Some head scratching has followed this, but I imagine this algorithm is a means to lessen the burden on the content engines. I can’t say I’ve ever missed posts from blogs, but then again, I don’t go into every blog page to check what is there versus what is in the Dashboard.
The great thing is that they are (probably) doing this to mitigate server-side load, but their algorithm incentivizes us to hit reload more often to make sure we see posts from old followees in that first ten.
Mindfuckingly stupid again, tumblr. Nice push pin, though. KUTGW.
UPDATE 15-Jul-2012: tumblr has since clarified that this is not what is happening. Not sure if I believe them or not. Caveat emptor.

Thankfully I follow less than 100 people, but signal boosting anyway.

What is this? I recently passed following 100 blogs, but the first people I followed are still some of the most...
