Anything But Down // Sheryl Crow
Yes, I like Sheryl Crow, especially when she’s just a little bit country like this.
There’s a lot of bitterness out there from the guys whom she made her first record with, and I suppose I understand that. They felt like a band, but the label marketed it as her solo project, disenfranchising them and resulting in a lot of withering hate bloggery from their camps (never from their own brave hands, oddly). That might be a legitimate gripe with the record company, but they turned it on her. Much of it was fairly predictable “she’s just a pretty face, we did the hard work!” sexism.
So she proceeded to write and produce three fantastic records, sell about 20 million of ‘em, and covered her mantel in Grammys in the process. All without the help of a bunch of never-were LA session guys. How about that.

She’s coming to Kent next month to play at the KSU stadium with Los Lonely Boys and someone else. Think we’ll go!
