You watch games on television with the sound off and the radio on, right?
I know it is an unpopular opinion, but I love Hawk and he is my favorite announcer (and has been since I was a kid). I like a home call to be totally passionate, he reacts to calls and plays the way my brain and heart reacts in the moment and he puts words to it. I like that he gets excited and you can tell cares. I like when he speaks his mind even when I don’t always agree, but seeing real emotional response is getting rarer these days. I like his old time baseball stories. I like his rapport with Stone, who gives me the balance of your typical announcer with stats and more level commentary.
On the other hand I can understand why this isn’t everyones cup of tea, but for me it just adds to the game and my enjoyment.
I love Hawk and Stone Pony. I miss them.
The only reason I don’t watch them with the TV sound down and the radio up is because, astonishingly, Farmio and DJ are worse.
I don’t think there is any major league team in any North American sport with three worse broadcasters than Hawk and those two mush-mouthed morons on the radio. Steve Stone, is, of course, a national treasure, but even he’s not enough to bring it much past barely tolerable.
