Shop Vac // Jonathan Coulton

I’ve seen this reblogged a couple of times today and I may see it a hundred more and that will still not be enough. This is, simply, the best music video I’ve seen in at least twenty years—a masterpiece.

We always complain that people don’t watch videos on tumblr, because it’s true. All I can say is that if you make that choice you are denying yourself 3:26 of delight and pleasure.  I actually rose from my chair during the guitar solo, not because of it (though it’s great) but because of the videomaker’s choice.

I don’t have enough superlatives. I’m torn because now I want to go and buy all of his music, ever, but that would mean I’d have to stop watching this video over and over and I’m not ready to do that yet.

Kinetic typography’s been over for a long time. But I guess there’s an exception to every rule. This is pretty great.

  8. fancycwabs said: Fun fact: The guitar solo is somebody else’s: Coulton held a contest to find the solo when he originally released the song, and the winning entry made it into the final version.
